«I will be propitious to you in your journey to Rome»

A beautiful lesson of life which remains forever unchanging is that of gratitude. In all honesty, I consider the celebration of my Final Incorporation into the least Society of Jesus, together with my Companion, Fr. Benedict Mayaki, SJ, on the 3rd of December 2024, from such an abundance of gratitude. I appreciate the Good and Merciful Lord, for the graces and gifts He bestowed upon me! I am ever grateful for the Superiors, formators, brothers, friends and family members who have encouraged and inspired me in several ways over the years. I cannot take these for granted.

The unwavering support of Companions, the various liturgical ministers, the Bellarmino community and many others, was a refreshing experience. Indeed, the coincidence of the celebration at the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, on the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, the Patron Saint of Missions, and at the hands of Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society sums it all. It happened as if it was all perfectly planned ahead. It is a significant reminder of that voice of Divine reassurance in the oft-told story of the vision of Father Ignatius at La Storta, «I will be propitious to you in your journey to Rome». Indeed, my feeling is to consider the events from this viewpoint of a propitious manifestation.

The lasting impression points to that continuous invitation and response towards the pathway of simplicity, availability and generosity of heart – all for the mission and service of the Church in the Society of Jesus. It is the call to which countless Jesuits throughout history have dedicated their lives and talents, following the footsteps of Father Ignatius and the first Companions. Thus, it remains an honour for me to treasure this definitive incorporation into the Society with a grateful heart!
